If you recognize that you’ve reached a point where you’d like to take your business to the next level, but it feels like the only way to expand your business is by working more and longer hours, you need systems. You might have an instant reaction just by my mentioning the word.
When I spoke to a group of CEO’s who own training companies, I asked them what comes to mind when I say the word systems.
I got a whole range of looks, reactions, and thoughts. Some of the business owners looked like they just ate a lemon and some responded with:
Systems give you freedom
Systems are processes
Systems create efficiencies
For the most part, business owners have this love-hate relationship with systems. They love the idea of having more freedom and opportunity by using them but hate the idea of having to implement them.
In my experience with my clients, it comes from not knowing which system to implement first. There’s one thing that is certain. It matters that you take a systems approach to implementing them. That is, determining the order of implementation.
One of the biggest mistakes that I see is that business owners haphazardly implement their systems, spend all kinds of money, and then wonder why it doesn’t work. I see this happen when they implement a lead generation system.
It’s great that you want to bring in more leads, but once you do, you must carry your system through. At the Wake Up Profitable Boot Camp for Business Owners, my students learn about a systems approach. This approach has a framework with it to ask the important questions, such as:
- How will you follow up with those leads?
- What is your keep-in-touch system so you add continuously value?
- How can you scale your business model to keep up with the new demands without working harder or longer hours?
Armed with a framework, you can distinguish which system comes first for your unique business.
