Write Your Book

I remember the swirl of emotions when I first decided to write my book. So many questions ran through my mind:

How am I even going to get this book written?
Where do I go to get it published?
How do I market it?
Could I actually make the best-seller list as a self-publisher?

Fast forward to October 2008, and there I was, launching my book, Me, Myself, and Why? The Secrets to Navigating Change, on a national scale. Not only did it hit the Amazon Best Seller Status, but it landed me right next to the big names—like Jack Canfield, the mastermind behind Chicken Soup for the Soul, and John Gray, author of Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus.

Afterward, many professionals who were thinking about writing their own books reached out, curious about how I managed to hit the Best Sellers List alongside such notable authors. They wanted the inside scoop on my process, and before I knew it, they were asking me to put together a program. So I created the Best Seller Profit System Mentoring Program, a comprehensive system to help others write, self-publish, market, and actually profit from their books long-term.

Putting Your Book to Work With Bulk Sales

Business owners are becoming savvy to the strategic advantages that self-publishing brings. When your book gets on the best sellers list, you’ll find, like my clients and I did, that doors more easily open and you can gain expert status in your chosen field.

In addition, your business sales increase, you start to charge more for your speaking engagements, and you can get more press attention. Selling your self-published books in bulk can be a great profit maker, too.

Fortunately, there are dozens of places to sell self-published books. As a self-published author, I have found many ways to sell my book beyond retail book stores. I shared some of the ways through my free teleseminar: Become a Best Selling Author.

One of the ways is through an often over-looked segment of buyers that frequently purchase books in large quantities. This niche market is comprised of companies that purchase books to motivate, educate, or incentivize their staff.

A word of caution before you randomly call companies. Approach any call by seeking to understand the person’s frustration, problem, or situation. Once you have a good understanding of what’s important, you can collaborate with them which may include how your book can improve their situation or problem.

Whenever I speak about my case studies that illustrate how hardwiring can increase sales 90% in 30 days or reduce turnover by 99% to 0 in 3 months, there is often interest from the audience to learn more.

My book, Me, Myself, and Why? The Secrets to Navigating Change, is a helpful guide that reinforces the hardwiring teaching points and provides additional foundational exercises. I provide several options or packages in how the organizations can use the book in their staff meetings to reinforce their education.

There are many ways to include a bulk book option. When you can bring value in showing them how to solve a problem, it’s no brainer to invest in your book.

Three Things You Need to Know If You’re Thinking of Writing a Book

booksWith a best-selling book under my belt, a co-authored book published, another book in the works, and author of an ebook, Get More Clients Now with thousands of downloads, I’ve learned a thing or two about writing and marketing books.

If you have dreams of writing a business book, there are three important things you need to know to be successful in making your dream of becoming a best selling author a reality.

1. There is only one person in the way of you not getting your book into the hands of those who need it most. That person is you.

There are millions of people who say they want to write a book and only a fraction who actually do. The plus side of writing your book is that technology is making it easier than ever to write and self-publish your book all the way to the best sellers list.

If you think your book idea isn’t good enough, think again. Start by jotting down your idea and thoughts on paper. When you write down your ideas, you’re taking that first step in making your dream a reality.

2. The first question isn’t how your book is going to get noticed. The first question to ask yourself is why do you want to write a book?

Your why is one of the most important questions you need to answer. It will keep you inspired throughout the entire process of writing your book. It’s also the first question many interviewers, broadcasters and radio show hosts will ask you when they interview you once you launch your book.

Your why should be bigger than yourself. When you tell others your why, it should inspire them.
When asked the question of why you want to write your book, many people respond that they have a compelling life story. I’ve also heard that others say that other people have encouraged them to write about their life.

That’s great but here’s the bad news. There are a lot of authors with a compelling story.

To make your book stand out, your book needs takeaway value. What is the compelling message or theme that no other book has captured?

When I was writing, Me, Myself, and Why? The Secrets to Navigating Change, I realized there were a lot of books that discussed the theory behind navigating change. Instead of focusing on the theory, I decided to give my readers practical tools to build a life they love regardless of their circumstances. In addition, I included thought-provoking questions they could ask themselves about their own life making my book interactive rather than prescriptive.

To this day, I receive letters and emails from my readers who use my book as a resource guide. Whenever they experience a particularly challenging life event, they return to the Self-Reflection Questions at the end of each chapter. These questions coach them to stay focused on their life’s vision and on what’s most important.

Since they also use the built-in tools, they also read and apply the questions differently depending on what they are creating in life. So, instead of purchasing another self-help book, they end up purchasing a book with staying power.

3. Becoming a best selling author is part of a systematic process. To be successful, you have to go beyond just thinking about writing your book. You must take action.

One of the best ways to get started is to imagine a reader has just finished the last sentence in your book and closes the book. Write down what you want your reader to feel, think, and do once they finish reading your book.
