American Author, Kenneth Blanchard wrote, “When you’re interested in doing something, you do it only when it’s convenient. When you’re committed to something, you accept no excuses, only results.”
His words are profound. This quote prompts the question, how can you recognize when you’re interested versus committed?
Interested starts exercising every January.
Committed makes health a way of life making consistently good food choices, scheduling time for workouts, seeking out a nutritionist, and focusing on your own wellness.
Interested reads a book.
Committed consistently applies the book’s principles and seeks out additional resources
Interested likes the idea of scaling a business.
Committed writes down a plan, creates a team, communicates the plan, puts in accountability and consistency, and tracks their results
While I was mentoring a client who had identified a large number of goals in various areas of his life, I noticed he didn’t produce the results he intended. I asked him to reflect on each of those goals and to ask himself if he was interested or committed to each area.
He reflected for a moment. A lightbulb went on giving him a new level of freedom in choosing the domains of life (or areas of life) he was committed to influencing each year.
When developing your goals, the answer to the question, “Are you interested or committed?” can provide a new insight and inspired action.
