The Role Your Personal Brand Plays in Getting More Referrals

personal brandAn important tool for expanding your business is your personal brand. Personal branding can be a real stumbling block for many business professionals. It’s easy to look at the business branding, but you may not have considered looking at yourself as a brand.

Your personal brand is present in every single interaction. It’s what attracts people to you and what separates you from anyone else.

A successful personal brand creates a consistent impression opening the door for you to expand your network, attract your ideal clients, and achieve your goals. A big benefit to clarifying your personal brand is that you make it easy for your referral sources to refer others to you.

In a recent Profitability Lab session, we reviewed ways to build a successful Referral Marketing System for each member’s business. One of the first steps in aligning their Referral Marketing System was to look at each members personal brand.

We highlighted a local and recognizable brand, The Betty Brigade. The Betty Brigade is a concierge company specializing in executive relocation. The CEO and Founder, Sharon McRill, has lost count on how many people have called her Betty instead of her given name. Sharon doesn’t mind. To her, that’s great branding.

Her company’s professional brand is easily recognizable with its vintage-looking characters and black and white color scheme. Since Sharon is one of the Profitability Lab Members, I asked Members to describe Sharon’s personal brand.

They began to identify her attributes:bettybrigadelogo

Laser Focused
Resulted oriented
Knowledgeable

Sharon’s laser-focused, knowledgeable approach distinguishes her from her competition. Those corporations who need her business moving coordination services will be attracted to her attributes.

These are important attributes that not only make up her personal brand, but are helpful descriptors to give to her referral sources who refer business to her. When her referral sources are networking, it helps them to listen for a good match between that ideal client and Sharon’s personal brand.

Remember to share your personal brand with your referral sources and partners. Then, watch how much better your referrals match up.
