What a joy it was to be asked to speak at the 20th Great Lakes Women’s Business Virtual Conference this week. I think it was my topic title that got their attention: Shift Has Hit The Fan! Now How Do I Navigate It?
I shared strategies for staying motivated when working virtually based on your human wiring, high-impact ways to deliver communication, and the results you can achieve when standing in your company’s Contribution in the World.
While I love the new challenge of speaking virtually, I miss is the face-to-face interaction. No surprise there – it tells you a little about my own wiring. When we meet in person, I enjoy looking someone in the eye, shaking hands, and exchanging business cards. When meeting virtually, you have to find other ways to connect, like on LinkedIn or through the conference portal.
One thing that hasn’t changed is that someone may say to you, “If I can ever help you, please let me know.” When they do, remember to seize the moment!
Have an idea on what you need, like:
-An introduction with a decision maker at a company you’re interested in working with
-A supplier to help you bring a product to market
-A panel speaker for an upcoming nonprofit event you’re planning
When they see that you have a specific answer, it shows that you are prepared to conduct business. It also instills confidence that you are a savvy business owner. When you reciprocate providing an introduction that they need, you lay the groundwork for a meaningful relationship.
A strategic approach to networking creates long-lasting relationships. Over time, you’ll develop referral partnerships by design all because you connected others, were strategic in your approach, and seized the moment. These partnerships will help you create a referral system that does the work for you helping you grow a profitable business.
