Whether you’re addressing an audience of ideal clients, being interviewed by a top podcaster, or presenting to your internal team, each moment is crucial. These moments provide a chance to communicate a key idea, promote your brand, or advance an initiative. These opportunities can be the tipping point of your success or the cause of significant setbacks.
A short time ago, I had a CEO client contact me thrilled to be invited to speak at a conference filled with her ideal prospects. After celebrating, I posed a critical question that every leader should consider before presenting:
What is your strategy?
Her response was, “I don’t have one.” It’s easy to get caught up in the excitement of an opportunity. However, it’s essential to develop a solid plan to maximize that opportunity. We quickly created a strategy with talking points that could be used not only for that engagement but also to target future interviews.
Attempting to wing it rarely leads to success. Without a strategy, you risk omitting important points, appearing arrogant, anxious, or desperate, or saying things you later regret.
Having a clear strategy allows you to achieve your desired outcomes by design, not by chance. Whether you want to capture the attention of your ideal clients, gain support for an idea, or motivate your team, always approach each speaking opportunity with a thoughtful strategy.
If you’re inspired to elevate your speaking, I invite you to join us for the Speaker Lab in June. More information at https://www.excellerateassociates.com/speaker-lab
