Human Wiring: How to Stop Being the Bottleneck in Your Business

May 24, 2018 by Lisa Mininni Leave a Comment

Does the idea of scaling your business make you feel uneasy because you think it will just add more work for you? If your answer is yes, then you may be the bottleneck in your business.

There is good news. The solution may not involve adding a costly layer to your organizational chart. There’ are small shifts that can make a real difference.

One of my clients expanded his business and fell behind on some of the critical success metrics. When we started to work together his schedule was overloaded, he was behind on several promises, and was working too many hours not leaving him energy or time with his family.

It’s really easy to think you need to add someone to your organizational chart to be the implementer or handle the daily communication. In fact, that may not be the ideal solution. First, we looked at several key areas of his business alignment and especially the way he was naturally wired.

He was wired with a high degree of autonomy and a high degree of certainty. Biologically, it was natural for him to want to put his thumbprint on ideas and make sure they were done right, which often gets translated into acting on his own ideas and doing things himself.

Not only was he hanging on to tasks his team could handle, he created an environment where his team went to him for everything because he would figure it out.

The innate autonomy he needed he was not providing to his team. He created the bottleneck in his business. There is a lot of personal power in discovering that you create your environment.

During his mentoring session, I asked him a few strategic questions. He quickly realized that he needed to shift a few things to have all of his critical success metrics work in all areas of his life.

In order to scale his business more effortlessly, he recognized the need to level up his leadership skills. There are two things that made a significant difference for his mix of wiring.

1. He would ask himself: Who on my team is the point person for this new project/client? Whenever he brought in business, his natural instinct was to hold on to the client. He would be the go between adding more to an already filled scheduled.

With the question in mind, he shifted the way he worked. He immediately started to engage the point person on his team in the conversations with the client. This early introduction paved the way for the team member to develop rapport with the client so the client would go to that point person rather than to him. Regardless if you have employees or independent contractors, add this handy question to your sales process.

2. He would ask his team member, “what do you recommend.” As someone naturally wired to want to solve challenges, having his team members come to him to solve these problems actually fed into his natural need to problem solve.

To change his results, he had to manage his natural impulse. When someone would come to him with a problem, instead of trying to figure it out, he would ask them for their opinion and solution. It wasn’t his first instinct, but he worked on managing his natural impulse.

It wasn’t long before his team realized they needed to step it up, too. They needed to present a solution to the problem instead of just the problem.

As an internal thinker, it didn’t always occur to him to verbalize exactly what he was looking for. He recognized the need to verbalize more of what he wanted so that the other person was clear on the outcome that was needed.

Within 30 days, he noticed a shift not only with himself, but with his team and the results that were being produced. His team members were taking proactive roles in the company, his schedule opened up to cultivate strategic relationships, and he had more time with his family.

As he mastered managing his natural wiring, more opportunities came his way. His team was highly engaged, and his revenue numbers increased over 62% from the previous year.

If you want to change the outside results, change the inside first. Then, watch was shows up.

It’s one thing to know how you’re wired, it’s another to understand how to align it, manage it, and spot the wiring in others. If you would like to understand your human wiring at a level where you powerfully create your desired future, register today for Wired to Win: Your Path to Passion, Purpose, and Profit on June 28-29, 2018.

How to Become an Unstoppable Leader

September 29, 2016 by Lisa Mininni Leave a Comment

confusedDid you know one of the reasons you get stopped has to do with your biological wiring?

Your individual wiring is one of the main forces determining the kind of human being you are. Understanding how you and others are wired also enhances idea flow, transforms communication, expands productivity, and strengthens decision making.

To go a step further, the discovery of ‘how’ wiring impacts your actions eliminates much of the mystery in understanding why you do what you do (and why others respond they way they do).

With this newfound knowledge, you expand your capacity to clearly and confidently interact with people around you. You also transform how you show up as a leader.

If you want to expand your natural capacity for leadership and see the difference you make on a broader scale, remember to register for my complimentary teleseminar, How to Become an Unstoppable Leader, on Wednesday, October 5 at 12 pm. All registrants also receive the replay.

On the teleseminar you will:

-Discover the #1 underlying reason why leaders are ineffective.

-Understand the 4 key elements of human wiring and the hidden reasons you get stopped.

-Learn to recognize a major cue so you’re more effective in enrolling others in an idea, product or service.

-And, most importantly, how you can take it further to become an unstoppable leader.

Your Wiring and How You Set Up Your Business Systems Are Deeply Connected

September 15, 2016 by Lisa Mininni Leave a Comment

interruptionsAre interruptions at work maddening? Not only are interruptions maddening but down right unproductive. Some researchers indicate that it takes you over 23 minutes to get back to where you left off.

Depending on your biological wiring, you may get easily distracted because you innately and immediately respond to your environment. For some people, interruptions can decrease your productivity 40% or more.

Your hardwiring is biological and drives you in business. Your hardwiring and how you set up your business systems are deeply connected. When you create and use the systems in alignment with how you naturally execute and respond, you create maximum efficiencies in your work environment.

One of my clients was running from one meeting to the next. After each meeting, she became increasingly frustrated at the new list of tasks added to her already growing list.

It wasn’t long before she was overwhelmed. She is naturally wired to need a lightly structured, but sequential work environment.

The first step in solving her problem was for her to hire an assistant who could follow through on multiple tasks. Most importantly, she hired an assistant who was naturally wired with a high degree of certainty who could follow through on the numerous list of tasks and transactions with a high degree of detail, which the job entailed.

The second step for her was to lock in time for tasks she personally needed to complete. She had a tendency to keep all of her tasks in her head keeping her in overwhelm. Instead, she identified specific timeframes each week for follow up calls and set an appointment on her calendar to follow up. The calendar reminders would prompt her to help her keep on task.

She discovered by placing time in her calendar for her projects, she didn’t have to rely on an already overloaded mental list. In the end, she more than doubled her profits in less than 12 months.

Unstoppable Leadership – How Are You Showing Up?

August 25, 2016 by Lisa Mininni Leave a Comment

excellerated success institute 2Research shows thousands of employees want to take the leap out of their jobs, and it’s all about dealing with a horrible boss.

Over one-third say that not only is their boss horrible at their job, their boss is also deeply ineffective. And quite frankly? They feel they could do a better job.

Ouch!

Complaints about the boss are common. The key is to recognize that you might be that boss.

And, it doesn’t make you wrong or a bad person. It happens to every leader at some point. You show up irritated, get triggered, or have a habit of focusing on the negative.

As a leader, you get stopped. You often get stopped because your underlying wiring gets amplified or is not met especially under stress.

Your individual wiring is one of the main forces determining how you show up. Your wiring is your greatest asset and can be your biggest liability.

Wiring dictates the type of environment in which you are best equipped to thrive and succeed, and the kind of environment you prefer to live and work. Understand that your wiring influences your actions each and every day. When you understand your wiring and the wiring of others, you expand your capacity to clearly and confidently interact with people around you.

You also transform how you show up as a leader. Understanding how you and others are wired enhances idea flow, transforms communication, expands productivity, and strengthens decision making.

If you want to expand your natural capacity for leadership and see the difference you make on a broader scale, I invite you to my upcoming teleseminar where you will:

-Discover the #1 underlying reason why leaders are ineffective.

-Understand the 4 key elements of human wiring and the hidden reasons you get stopped.

-Learn to recognize a major cue so you’re more effective in enrolling others in an idea, product or service.

-And, most importantly, how you can take it further to become an unstoppable leader.

A Tip for Saying No to a Verbal Thinker

July 14, 2016 by Lisa Mininni Leave a Comment

artofsayingnoverbalthinkerAs a leader, you can communicate with effectiveness and grace when you deliver information with a person’s natural wiring in mind. Your natural wiring or hardwiring is something you’re born with, it’s distinct from behaviors, and stays with you your entire lifetime.

As you know if you’ve been part of my community, your wiring determines how much autonomy you innately need, how you process thought, the environment in which you best thrive, and the amount of information you need for effective decision making.

In last week’s blog article, I shared two tips business leaders can use to empower their team when the team member is wired with a high degree of autonomy. This week, we’ll focus on what to keep in mind if you are delivering information to a person who is a Verbal Thinker.

Verbal Thinker (or External Thinker) is the informal term to describe individuals who are naturally wired higher on the Communication spectrum. They have a high social drive which seeks to connect with others.

They also verbalize to crystallize their thoughts. They bounce ideas off of others to formalize and finalize their own thoughts. This process of casting the thought a loud and judging the reaction received from others helps them to develop their idea.

When little or no response is received from another person, this motivates a Verbal Thinker to repeat themselves or restate the idea to ensure the concept is fully understood. As a leader, you may even find that they come back to the same issue over and over especially if you haven’t fully acknowledged their idea or concept.

When working with a person who is higher on the Communication spectrum and you need to say no to their promotion, it’s important to be in their world. Their self-confidence is derived externally. They respond positively when receiving acknowledgement for their performance. However, if you need to say no to their promotion, this can be a real hit to their self-confidence, which they innately get externally.

How you frame the news can make a real difference to Verbal Thinkers. They innately like to give and receive help. When saying no, let them know how you will assist them to receive the necessary skills or training they might be missing so that they can learn the added skills to turn that no into a yes.
